Von Ebert Brewing, the award-winning and locally owned Portland-based brewing company, will release two new beers on Friday as part of its Heritage Beer program.

For Sam Pecoraro, head brewer of Von Ebert Brewing, articulating the idea of a new beer—flavors, aromas, mouthfeel, appearance—is the first step in writing a new recipe. Whether they’re brewing lager or IPA, it all starts with the written idea.

Zupan’s Markets has partnered with Portland’s own Von Ebert Brewing to develop the 14th beer in its Farm-to-Market lineup. An extension of the brewery’s exploration of pilsners, the Von Ebert Modern Citra Pilsner blends new varieties of German hops with modern American hop products that defy tradition and push flavor profiles.

Despite the challenges this year posed, we were able to taste thousands of beers over the past 12 months. Here are the very best of this unique (and unrepeatable) year.
